About GC Logicals

Some consultants come to engineering through a classroom. I came through the shop floor.

My career began thirty years ago as an apprentice plater welder. From there I moved to one of the most prestigious and internationally recognised fabrication facilities in the industry — the kind of environment where standards are not aspirational, they are the baseline. It was there that the foundations were laid: an obsession with quality, an understanding of what compliant fabrication actually looks like in practice, and a respect for what it takes to get complex, high-integrity work right first time.

By the age of 25 I was working as a QC Inspector — reading standards, implementing systems, and learning that the gap between what a code says and what actually happens on the shop floor is where most problems begin. That insight has shaped everything I have done since.

Over the following decades I progressed through Project Management, Head Project Management, and Quality Management, before taking on leadership of multiple engineering departments simultaneously — Projects, Contracts, Estimating, and Purchasing. Each role added a different lens: commercial awareness, programme management, supplier control, risk. Together they built a picture of how fabrication businesses actually function under pressure, and where the points of failure tend to be.

Five years ago I established GC Logicals as an independent consultancy. The decision was deliberate. Operating independently means I work for my clients, not for a corporate agenda. Every engagement gets my full attention, my full experience, and a straight answer — whether that is what the client was hoping to hear or not.

What GC Logicals Offers

My core specialisms are the areas where I have spent the majority of my career:

Welding Compliance — WPQR and WPS development to ASME Section IX, BS EN ISO 15614, and welder qualification to BS EN ISO 9606. Nickel alloy and stainless steel fabrication in particular, across oil & gas, nuclear, and petrochemical sectors.

Quality Management — ISO 9001 implementation, gap analysis, weld mapping, and ISO 19443 for nuclear supply chain organisations. Practical systems that work on the shop floor, not just in a folder on a shelf.

Technical Oversight and Project Management — independent oversight of fabrication projects, including programme management, contract support, and supplier management in high-integrity sectors.

Who I Work With

My clients are typically fabricators, manufacturers, and engineering businesses operating in sectors where the consequences of non-compliance are serious — nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical, and pressure equipment. They are often highly capable organisations with skilled people, facing increasing demands from clients, regulators, and codes that are growing more complex by the year.

They do not need someone to tell them how to weld. They need someone who understands the full picture — the standards, the documentation, the audit trail, the commercial pressure, and the shop floor reality — and can bring all of that together in a way that actually works.

That is what thirty years in this industry makes possible.
